BAPTISM

At Milestone Church

We do believe that baptism is a step of obedience but baptism in itself does not save. We are only saved by what Jesus has done. We are saved because he is the one who did everything right and yet bore the penalty of what was wrong. So, in faith, we trust and receive Jesus as our Savior. Obedience never saves, but rather it shows that we have been saved. We obey in baptism not to be saved but rather because Christ, by his Spirit, has caused us to believe, repent, and walk in obedience. We respond to Christ's love by showing our love through obedience not because we are earning his love, but rather because he has already loved us.

We believe that baptism is a public profession of an inward faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. We believe the Bible teaches that baptism represents our united death and resurrection with Jesus. That just as we have gone down into the waters—a representation of death of the old self—so we also come up from the water—a representation of new life. This is only possible because Jesus himself died for our sins and then was resurrected for our justification. So, baptism spiritually reflects our union and loyalty to Jesus.
